Since it’s been a while since I last blogged, and I’m stalling in writing a scholarly paper, am taking a brief break in writing a WIP, and I have laundry to do which I personally despise… I figured this is the perfect time to post something! I’ve been busy twittering of late, and am actually discovering the enjoyment in chatting with so many people from over the world. I must admit after putting it off for so long, I do enjoy tweeting. I find I am actually better at twittering than I am at blogging, since blogging requires more than a millisecond that it takes to respond to a tweet.
And my other dilemma with blogging: I’m already writing so much as a Teacher providing feedback for students, creating online lessons and powerpoints, scholarly articles that require research, and writing books…which sheesh..is the whole reason I’m doing this! So the point is…my blogging is sporadic since I cannot commit the existing hours in the day to do it, without taking valuable hours away from writing. And my writing is what keeps me sane, or maybe insane depending upon how you look at it.
Either way though, how many authors out there are finding that blogging is taking valuable time away from their actual ‘writing’ time, in creating their stories? I know some people find blogging a nice release in their daily lives, but I am finding it to be more of a pull away from the things I really love doing….and need to get done. Not that I don’t enjoy an occasional blog post (like this one), but I am admitting this about myself. I was not born to blog. This much is clear. But as long as I keep my name in the game, I’ll keep blogging…or rather slogging along.
So how many continue to blog for the sake of blogging? And how many love to blog? Curious authors want to know….

I should love blogging, but I don’t. I do, however, have passionate affairs with it. It does take away from my creative horsepower and sometimes that’s not cool. I do, however, make a point of at least doing one weekly post. The blog is up there for people to connect to me and read my thoughts–and leave their own. It’s also there for a business purpose.
Sometimes, I don’t have the wit to be amusing in a blog post. Sometimes I don’t have the desire to expound. Sometimes, it’s just part of the job.
But sometimes, it’s a lot of fun!
Ask other authors to guest blog for you. Gives you a break and a chance for them to promote!
Thanks for the feedback! Guest blogging is a great idea! I’ll have to look into that…Maybe I’ll post a blog entry about guest blogging. Any takers?
Hi Catheryn
Couldn’t agree more! I spent quite a few months avidly blogging, and enjoying being part of a writerly blogging community, building a decent following, all the things that a writer needs to do to build a platform …. except actually doing the writing that the platform was meant to serve. It was like having all the scaffolding, with no building in the middle. So I decide to put the blogging on the back burner until I actually have something to promote. Give me six months or so. maybe.
